BATTERY CARE

The battery is the heart of any eScooter and eBike, therefore it's vital that the upmost care is provided to it to help ensure your eScooter or eBike battery better serves you.

Our battery care page will focus on the keys points with owning and operating a lithium-ion battery and how best to maintain it.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR LITHIUM-ION BATTERY

At EnviroRides, we want to ensure that you get the most out of your eScooter and eBike battery, therefore it's vital that you take on board some of the points listed below.

Charging

  • Use the Original Charger: Always use the charger provided by the eBike or eScooter manufacturer to charge your battery. Using third-party chargers may cause compatibility issues and potential safety risks.
  • Follow Charging Specifications: Just because a charger looks the same doesn't mean it is, each charger will have specifications relevant to the battery it's charging, ensure that replacement chargers match the original specifications.
  • Follow Charging Guidelines: Adhere to the charging guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Avoid overcharging or discharging the battery to extremely low levels.
  • Charge in a Safe Location: Always charge the battery in a safe location away from flammable materials or sources of heat.
  • Supervision: Never leave your eScooter or eBike to charge unsupervised.
  • Unplug After Charging: Once the battery is fully charged, unplug it from the charger promptly to prevent overcharging and potential safety risks.
  • Charge in a Well-Ventilated Area: When charging the battery indoors, ensure you do so in a well-ventilated area to dissipate any heat generated during the charging process.

Storage

  • Store Your Battery In The Dry: If the eSooter or eBike is stored in a cold place overnight, such as an outside shed or garage, the battery gets cold. During this time, the gel inside will stiffen up and therefore reducing its lifespan.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Keep the battery away from extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, as they can adversely affect its performance and safety. Aim to store and charge the battery in a temperature-controlled environment.
  • Maintain Recommended Voltage: For long-term storage, maintain the battery at the recommended voltage level to preserve its health.
  • Regularly Clean and Inspect Contacts: Keep the battery contacts and connectors clean and free from dirt, debris, or corrosion. Inspect them regularly and clean them if necessary to maintain proper electrical connections (not with metal brushes).
  • Use Protective Covers: Consider using protective covers or cases for your battery pack to shield it from potential scratches, dents, or impacts during regular use.

Water & Moisture

  • Don't Get It Wet: All our eScooters and eBikes are IP54 rated and above, which means they're splash resistant in terms of water exposure, however this doest mean they're waterproof and moisture proof.
  • Don't Store Outside: You might think storing your eScooter or eBike in a shed, out of the rain is good, wrong. Even if your eScooter or eBike is stored out of the rain, it may still be exposed to water moisture, through morning dew for example. Keep your eScooter or eBike stored in a warm, dry environment.

Modification

  • Never Tamper: Lithium-ion batteries can store a serious amount of energy, that's why we love them in our eScooters and eBikes, however, if the batteries cells are ruptured when trying to modify the battery then you can leave yourself extremely exposed to injury.

Impact

  • Regularly Inspect for Damage: Regularly inspect the battery pack for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. If you notice anything unusual, consult an authorised dealer or a professional technician for evaluation.
  • Don't Subject to Extreme Physical Stress: Refrain from subjecting the battery to excessive physical stress or impacts, such as dropping or hitting it, as it can lead to internal damage.

Be Aware Of The Risks

  • Be Vigilant: As you're aware, lithium-ion batteries can be extremely dangerous when not cared for properly. At EnviroRides we must always ensure that you take responsibility when charging and storing your eScooter and eBike to ensure you use your eScooter and eBike safely.
  • Never Leave Unsupervised: We strongly advise that you never leave your eScooter or eBike charging unsupervised or left to charge for extended periods of time.
  • Ask Questions: If you're unsure of any aspects regarding your eScooter or eBikes battery, then please do not hesitate to contact us here.
